The Great Falls Select Basketball League includes boys and girls teams for grades 5 through 8. For younger players in the House League, there is a 4th Grade Development Program for those seeking more training and competition. Only 3rd and 4th graders in the House League can join this program.
Who is eligible?
3rd and 4th grade players who are willing to commit to a higher level of training and skill improvement than the House League offers are eligible to try out. Players trying out for the 4th Grade Development team must understand that, if selected, they are still required to play in their respective grade's House League (3rd graders in 3rd grade House League and 4th graders in 4th grade House League). GF Hoops organizes teams by grade, not allowing playing up or down in the house league based on subjective factors; exceptionally talented players should try out for the select program or the 4th grade developmental team.
What is the program's objective?
The program's main goal is to serve as a bridge between House League and Select League basketball, preparing players for higher competition. This is achieved by enhancing players' skills through advanced drills and training, and by increasing their game knowledge through competitive matches against teams outside the Great Falls basketball program.
How does the program work?
Players in the Developmental Program must participate in the Great Falls Basketball House League as their primary basketball commitment for the regular Winter season. In addition, they will participate in an extra weeknight practice and have the chance to play in games and tournaments in the VA/DC/MD area. If there's a schedule conflict, House League events take priority. Throughout the season, all players on the 4th grade Developmental team will have opportunities to improve their skills and compete against stronger opponents.
What is the cost?
In addition to the GF Hoops registration fee of $195 ($225 after 9/25), an additional team fee of $300 per player will be assessed and is due upon acceptance of a roster position. This covers professional trainers, gym rentals, training gear, league fees, additional tournaments, scrimmages, referees, etc. There is no refund once a roster position has been accepted and paid.
Is there a tryout?
Yes. The tryout for the 4th Grade Developmental Program will be conducted as early as mid-October. Generally, there are two or three tryouts. Dates, times and locations of the tryouts will be announced in September. Interested players are encouraged to attend every tryout possible in order to allow the coaches and trainers ample opportunities to watch the players and assess their skill levels.
